The Number One Thing You Need To Become A Better Writer
A room for improvement every writer needs to apply
Becoming a writer is easy, becoming a great writer is a whole different story to say.
So what differentiates between the two?
Well, of course everyone could be a writer. What you need to do is only jot down the thoughts you have in your mind to the paper or any other similar note-taking tools. And writing is a basic skill which everyone surely has or must do at least once in their life (no way you never wrote anything, yes?).
A great writer, on the other hand, puts deliberate practice every day and excellent creative process in their mind to produce magnificent works at hand. You can tell that a great writer can hook their readers deeply when first reading their books or writings. What I respect and appreciate about them is that they took simple and basic things to a completely different level.
Not everyone appreciates writing as an art.
While most people might look differently at writing as a basic skill that requires no extra effort and no necessary specialized expertise, I could have said that this is a false assumption. You need to understand that just trying to create the title of one writing itself takes so much effort to do, do not forget to mention the content of the writing in it.
After explaining the difference above, now you wonder on what side you belong to now? And if you haven’t been on the side of the great writer, you might want to search how to become one or be better at it?
Rest assured because I will tell you the number one thing they do to become the master in their field and you can also do it too if you have the willingness to read more and learn from it.
Razor’s Edge Concept
After I read one of Bob Proctor’s books titled “You Were Born Rich”, I was enlightened and became more aware of the situation or event which caused so few people to achieve great success in everything they were working on. It is not a bit of mere luck and coincidence that they were called great achievers. It doesn’t mean that luck couldn’t make someone successful, it could, but you can’t solely depend on all to “luck”. Luck comes with continuous effort and never-ending hard work.
So luck also comes with a price, unless you do the lottery or gambling, which is something I never did (but I do not suggest you do both of it either).
Bob, in his book “You Were Born Rich” explains Razor’s Edge concept as a thing that separates winners and losers is as fine as razor’s edge. It means the difference is very thin. Even though the difference is only one percent, it is still what makes so minor people succeed to achieve their goals and accumulate great fortunes for their entire lifetime than the majority of mediocre people live in this world.
Bob quoted in his book:
“One person just about starts a project, the other persons starts it. One individual almost completes a task, the other does complete it. One person sees an opportunity, the other acts on it. One student nearly passes the exam, the other does pass it — and although the difference in their marks may be only one percentage point out of a hundred, it’s that one point that makes all difference”
Later on, Bob said that every person has exactly equal opportunities to succeed. It’s not a matter of whether some people have the gift and privilege to succeed and some people don’t. It is we who are responsible for what we would be achieving.
If you take a close look, the Razor’s Edge concept has a very inseparable association with what we call the name “Persistence”. Persistence is easy to say, but a hard thing to master and apply.
Persistence
Talking about persistence, Napoleon Hill devoted an entire chapter on his book title “Think and Grow Rich” just merely to address persistence itself. It means persistence has its own place in the heart of the great achievers around the world. No matter what people do to make their goals come true, being persistent is what you must take to embark on the quest.
Napoleon Hill quoted in his book:
“Persistence is an essential factor in the procedure of transmuting desire into its monetary equivalent. The basis of persistence is the power of will.”
He also tells about Henry Ford’s misunderstood success by the majority of people. People saw Ford’s success because he was a ruthless and cold-blooded man, which in fact he wasn’t.
What Ford simply did is because of his habit of following through all of his plans with persistence and eventually succeeded.
After I do the research of some of the most profound writers in the world, most of their advice to become a great writer is to put in a lot of effort and time to write on a daily basis. Whether you feel like it or not, keep on writing.
Besides that, what you must do to have the ability to craft great stories or articles depends upon your quality. But don’t get down on you when I say the quality is important, because quality does come when so much quantity has been put to good use.
Ray Bradbury has famously quoted:
“Quantity produces quality. If you only write a few things, you’re doomed.”
Kris Spisak has also famously quoted:
“Persistence and determination can have amazing results!”
I agree 100% with what Kris said, especially about “persistence and determination can have amazing results”.
Conclusion
The razor’s edge concept that eventually would lead to persistence is linked to each other and another. Persistence will ultimately attract any other traits you need in order to succeed as a great or better writer or any other goals or works you are working on right now. You will have the power to go through all the hurdles upon embracing the quest to success. You are the writer of your future. What you always do now, reflects what you are in the future.
