Happiness Can Be Everything

It’s not always about the money

What does My Happiness Look Like?

I remember when I was a child, I would be really happy if my father took me to a fine restaurant.

I love eating and can’t stop eating although I’ve run a diet program (a very bad example of mine that I suggest you mustn’t follow). Whenever my father asks me to go to the best restaurant in town which serves delicious food that fits my taste or appetite, I got stupidly excited about it.

Until now, eating is still one of the things that I can be grateful for. I feel blessed just by eating only. When eating, I forget all of the hardships or struggles I’ve come across before. When eating, it feels like I live in a joyous moment forever.

That’s my kind of happiness. Though there is a lot more that would make me happy, like traveling and watching movies, eating is one of the biggest of all (please don’t forget to exercise since your body needs it too, especially if you eat a lot).

I just can’t stop when it comes to good food.

We Have Our Own Version of Happiness

You see, there are a lot of people struggling so much finding and debating what happiness would look like.

The oldest discussion lingering about happiness is “did happiness come from having a lot of money or not?” and every answer that follows the question. Some will say yes, and some might say not really.

I think it becomes monotonous.

What makes me say “monotonous”? It is because people always argue about this dilemma over and over again based on their own circumstances and biases. For instance, rich people believe having more money doesn’t equal happiness.

There are some things that the rich can’t have just by having a lot of money, like family time together, health conditions, and the loss of loved ones. If you lost so much on one of those three things, money can’t return it.

That’s not the case for the poor. The poor obviously will say having a lot of money can make people happy since you can buy everything you want. This happens because they’ve been living a life where money is just hard to get and easy to spend.

Unlike the rich, money is not a big problem anymore. Money comes to the rich like a magnet.

One thing that I fundamentally highlighted when people associate money and happiness, is that it’s only solving their money problem, not their “happiness” problem. They only want their money problem to be solved, they weren’t meant to reach “true” happiness.

What if I say that you can get happy both for having and not having a huge amount of money. For me, money is just a tool for freedom. We can’t generalize happiness the same for all people. Everyone has their own version of happiness.

Finding Happiness Is Very Simple

I always remind myself every time that If I want to be happy, I just have to gag with my family or my friends.

Every time I felt lonely and sad and needed a companion, I just texted my best friend and arranged a meetup in a coffee shop or at a local hangout spot. When we meet, we’ll talk about life experiences and the funny things each other has been through for hours.

Being with a family member every time dinner hits the night is also nice and makes me happy. I’m happy that we are able to be together and eat good food at the same time.

Those things above are simple things you can get for happiness. Actually, you need to stop looking and following other people’s models of happiness. Seek and create your own happiness.

Final Thoughts

Happiness is a complicated matter. There is no valid way of going happy. Happiness can be anything as long as you want it to be happy.

Many people search for multiple ways or alternatives to achieve true happiness when it’s clearly in front of them.

Try to ask yourself again, is what you do truly make you happy? Or are there other things you missed in order to be happy?

Reflect once again and then rejoice for another chance you would get along with the process.

True happiness can be everything.
