3 Mistakes I Made As A Beginner Writer (And You Should Avoid It Too)
Don’t be afraid to explore unfamiliar words, different niches or topics, and try to publish every single day.
As a beginner writer, people often put too much effort on their first journey to become an excellent writer. To become an excellent writer, it means you should have a magnificent piece of writing. And to create such a wonderful piece of art, first you must learn how to make one.
The fun part is that, when you first start your journey to become a brilliant writer, beginner writers focus too much on creating it perfectly on the very first try. Their first article has to get famous or published in big media or maybe generate a lot of money.
I agree that we as a writer should have a purpose, but the point is, when you start your road as a beginner writer, it wasn’t about the article. It’s about your growth to create valuable content as the time goes by.
And to avoid the mistakes I made as a beginner writer, I want to share these 3 pieces of advice that would be helpful in your writing process.
#1. Don’t Concentrate On The Quality Content
I know this seems opposite to what most writers would advise, but if you are just starting out your career as a writer in the beginning, my opinion is that you shouldn’t extremely focus on the content you want to create. Just ignore the quality first and try to produce as many articles on the starting point.
While great writing gives us much attention and reward, you need hours and hours to achieve that kind of level with just a single writing. Start now and fail earlier, so you can actually learn and succeed, than just to wait to be perfect or you’ll never accomplish progress.
#2. Forget The Grammar
To be honest, I am slightly afraid to say this, but I guess I don’t care anymore. I don’t care what other writers would say about me if I give this advice. But to me personally, as a beginner writer, when I tried to write something, and I didn’t apply the correct grammar, my writing process works like a grace.
It feels like I have let go of a pile of stuff on my back and shoulder. In the meantime, I only spotlight the content I should have to write. Most languages people speak and write aren’t native English, so it would also contribute to their writing process.
Although you can learn and fix the grammar later, having correct grammar is also vital for the long run and to survive and compete with other writers. Make sure you learn from every resource along the way to improve your grammar.
#3. Take Constructive Criticism, Not Negative
It is hard when someone criticises us when we are hitting the road on our writing journey. Albeit it was a hard choice not to accept critics, just take it no matter what it may affect us. Good critics build you into an incredible writer, and bad ones fall you apart.
Most beginner writers choose to take a negative view from others, rather than to focus on the positive ones. You should know that negatives don’t have any suggestions and solutions. No room for improvement at all. Whereas the positive ones give you a broader room for recovery from the failure you’ve probably created. It gives you recommendation, guidance, support, and encouragement in the path.
Final Thoughts
Those 3 things above I have shared with you are my experience right now as a beginner writer. For some of you it may not be the same, but those lists are what I would say if you want to stand and grow as a beginner writer. Don’t be afraid to explore unfamiliar words, different niches or topics, and try to publish every single day. Start now if possible or tomorrow. It’s better than too late. Take lessons along the journey and come out as the best writer out there.
